Do you know why slow, deep breathing helps you to calm down
and find peace?  Of course there are the
physiologic effects, but what of the spiritual? 
When you inhale deeply, the focus of the mind goes to the location
within the body where expansion is occurring. 
And look!  What else is in this
place?  The heart!  You are drawn naturally to the seat of the soul.  The focus leaves the head and rests for a
while in the place of peace.  Follow the
breaths straight to the heart when thoughts want to overtake you.  You cannot race and breathe slowly.  If the mind is racing, breathe slowly and
settle naturally into the slow pace of peace.
