As you become accustomed to peace, the forays into the nether regions become so apparent that you notice them. This is the point of emotions: to get your attention and teach you. When you notice them and use them as a learning tool rather than allowing them to use you, then peace becomes your home base, rather than a place you visit from time to time while being tossed about in the waves.
