Set a place at the table for those who’ve passed.
… A most wonderful way to make the memories last.
Know that to do so is not just folly.
‘Tis not wishful thinking or meant to cause melancholy.
The truth is that they live on still.
So you set a place at your table until
You meet them face to face once again
But know in your soul that until then
You honor that place right there in your heart
That place deep inside where you never part.
If you could see them sitting there
Warming the place in that not-so-empty chair
Your holidays would be so very much brighter
But their form these days is just a bit lighter.
So honor them in whatever way you must
But hear us well and please do trust
That death may cause a physical loss
But it’s the thinnest of veils they now live across.
